The methodology to design educational escape games is ready!

  • definition of learning objectives: several learning models and process are introduced
  • definition of narrative elements
  • definition of the game mechanisms: game flow, types of padlocks, puzzles, roles of characters, clues…
  • preparation of a game prototype and testing
  • creating elements, building the space
  • implement and run the game
  • conclusion of the game and debriefing with participants

Some practical worksheets are provided.

The methodology is available online. Several copies in French and in English are available at Odyssée’s office, feel free to contact us to receive them!

This methodology is the Intellectual Output n°1 of Escape Your Stereotypes project.

Discover a new pedagogical escape game project !!

If you’ve followed Escape your stereotypes and are interested in game based learning there is a new interesting project to follow for you >  Youth Escape Covid – an Erasmus+ project with 7 European countries, lead by Scout Society in Romania.

The vision of project “Youth Escape COVID” is: to create a highly innovative non-formal educational method & tool-using culture as a foundation in this endeavor, while the scope of the project is: to combat the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on youth in Europe in a creative and innovative way.

The Objectives of the project :

1. Providing innovative non-formal educational tools that contribute to skill and competence development for young people aged 16-25
2. Reactivation of core values of EU (active citizenship, entrepreneurship) in 7 local communities for 24 months
3. Accelerating digital transformation in youth work in Europe
4. Boosting creativity for young people aged 16-25 years in Europe

The results available for you !

  • A new methodology on how to develop new educational non-formal methods that spike creativity and innovation in the long run. Here especially we are referring to designing a multimodal interdisciplinary escape room that can be used in any context and tailored for any subject.
  • A guide on how to build a multimodal escape room using resources at hand and adapting it to your space (i.e., a school classroom, a sport hall, outdoor) and more importantly on how to address the learning needs of your group of young people (i.e, boost creativity, culture, and multiculturalism).
  • Application – design and customize an application that helps practitioners to set up the learning environment for the escape room; some basic characteristics of the application would be to suggest how many players can a certain space accommodate, what challenges to organize, how long the “experience” could take. Moreover, the best “multimodal escape rooms” and their learning objectives can be shared with other practitioners and users.

Discovery of the Escape Your Stereotypes project – 4th of November 2021

On Thursday’s afternoon, the 4th of November, Association Odyssée organized the multiplier event where local organizations and young people had the opportunity to discover the pedagogical escape game of the project to fight against stereotypes, supported by Erasmus Plus’s program. Erasmus agency from Paris was able to visit us !

The event started with an icebreaker to know a little bit more about each other and with the objective to realize that we all have prejudices. Liz, the escape games’ specialist explained the interest and the specificity of escape games as a pedagological tool. Then, we presented two aspects of this project: methodology and the escape game created by the European partnership. After a general presentation of the project and its progress, our guests were able to test some puzzles. This allowed us to get some feedback. The participants left with a guide to create their own escape game ! The event ended by a cocktail organized by MarieCurry, a company that values the culinary knowledge of refugee and immigrant women in the Bordeaux metropolitan area.

Transnational project meeting with our European partners

In the context of the Escape Your Stereotypes project, financed by Erasmus + program, Odyssée welcomed the 4th and the 5th of November our English and Lithuanian partners, Liz and Audrius for a transnational project meeting in our office in Bordeaux, France. The meeting has allowed us to share project’s progress and to plan the end of the project in February 2022.

After several virtuals meetings, we were finally able to discuss about the translation issues of the escape game (to French and Lithuanian), improve the puzzles if necessary, discuss about the feedback, collect the latest ideas. This meeting made it possible to make a review of what has been achieved and to reflect on the promotion of this educational escape game.
